This is an exciting opportunity in Columbus, IN for a Cummins Electronics Tools Architect role. Cummins USA is where you can work on industry leading engineering projects such as New Product Development, Value Package Introduction and Systems Product Validation.
Your impact will happen in these and other ways:
Architect, design and develop software platforms using IOS, Android, Linux or RTOS environments to support rapid innovation and product development.
Uses systems knowledge and product expertise to make decisions in the areas of platform architecture, risk trade-offs, technology integration, product line competitiveness for Cummins Electronics Tools throughout the life cycle of the product platform.
Defines product requirements and builds high-level architectural specifications, ensuring feasibility, functionality, and integration with existing systems/platforms.
Communicates architecture designs with internal (software and multi-disciplinary project team) and external (other Cummins partners, industry partners, vendors, etc.) parties involved in our projects.
Be deeply knowledgeable in Wireless protocols, networking protocols, security, over-the-air upgrade technologies, and cloud solutions.
Recommend tool architectures in our increasingly complex product lines (e.g. new products like electrification and connectivity modules) and business arrangements with suppliers, internal customers, Joint Ventures and external customers.
Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Sustain broad knowledge of available and emergent technology, market drivers, and future needs.
Provide technical leadership and direction for team members.
Operates as the recognized multi-competency, global specialist in Electronic Tools within Cummins Electronics with responsibility for developing local talent (direct or indirect).
Coaches and mentor’s other specialists, project managers and cross-functional team members.
Education, Licenses, Certifications
College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Computer Science or other relevant technical disciplines is required. Master’s degree strongly preferred.
Prior Technical Specialist/Specialist Engineering equivalent work experience in a related discipline area is required with a proven track record of technical problem solving, quality decision-making and providing technical direction and leadership to a project team(s).
10 years of experience fielding software systems as a software developer and 3 years of experience designing software systems as a software architect.
Excellent understanding of computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, operating system, networking protocols, wireless standards and protocols, security protocols, API development, etc.
Excellent software development skills and agility to adapt to new languages and programming environments.
Experience with professional software engineering practices over all aspects of software development life-cycle including writing requirements specifications, developing design guidelines and coding standards, performing code reviews, source code control, build systems, testing, release engineering and field support.
Experience working in IOS, Linux and/or Android OS including work in one or major subsystems within the OS.
Excellent problem-solving skills especially debugging of complex software systems.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
A passion for applying the latest technologies into the development of innovative features and products.
